ENGINE WIRING HARNESSES for Volvo 960
Lots of Volvo engine harnesses are suffering as they get older. This is not really unique to the 960. The 960 was made from 1991 to 1998 (as the S90 in later years) and parts of this harness are deteriorating after prolonged exposure to high heat.
<<< If you inspect your 960 engine wiring harness and see discolored connectors like this, then I'm sorry to say the days are numbered for your harness. When new, those two buullet inserts are clear silicone.
If you keep looking, you'll
find more this problems in other areas.
The ultimate problem for these terminals is they become so deteriorated and
brittle that they fall apart. This of course brings connectivity
problems. You're car begins to misbehave and your nightmare begins.
Replacement Engine Wire Harness.
PN 9128642, 1994-95 960 with EGR Temp Sensor.
An enormous effort has gone into the design and production of this harness. The cheap, brittle convoluted plastic harness sleeving has been replaced with nice looking vinyl sleeving.

First, look for your harness PART
NUMBER. It can be found
on your engine harness on a printed label attached to a hard plastic
channel conduit near the main ECU connector. This one is PN 9128642.
This particular harness has a connector for an EGR temperature sensor. There's only ONE connector for EGR, which means the difference between an EGR harness and a non-EGR harness is evidently very small.
So if you have a similar 960 without EGR, then your harness may be the same (or very close) except for that one EGR connector.
<<< If you have a different part number, please email me. Also you should have a look at the large white plastic connector under your hood. Early 960s will have one that looks like this photo to the left, usually found in models up to 1995 (1995 was a transition year). It's under a BLACK PLASTIC COVER under the hood.

|<<< If you find that you have a large white connector
with a bolt through the middle like this (connector #1 in
photo), then this harness
outlined here will not fit,
however I'm working on making this harness available soon. This type of large connector is
found in models usually made after 1995 (1995 was a transistion
year). Some models will have connector
#1 only. Connector #2 may not be present.
And there were even later models made approximately after 1996 that also have connector #2. This smaller connector is white also. If you find this in your car, please let me know.

<<< This hard plastic conduit channel shown here is no longer available new. You may re-use the same channel conduit from your car, so there will NOT be a need to send us one. It's made to split apart, so it can be easily removed from your old harness and reinstalled on the new harness before you complete your installation. This conduit is secured using a nylon zip-tie.
Your new harness will come with all other channel conduits (as shown in above harness photos).
